How to Recover Files From SD Card Using cmd?


SD Card is commonly used for storing data as it can be used in computers, laptops, camera etc. but in some cases it may lead to irritating situation. When you try to connect SD card to your computer in that case you would face these errors. You may get any of the following errors when you try to access your SD card data such as: “The disk is not formatted. Do you want to format it now” or “File or directory is corrupted and unreadable”. In such cases you would not be able to either read or write data from the SD card. If the SD card is not properly maintained then the data stored in the card may be lost forever.

Whenever you face this type of situation in that case you should stop using your SD card. if you continue using it then in that case the older data in the card gets overwritten and then it would become impossible to recover them. You can recover your lost files by using the cmd command from the corrupted or formatted SD card:

  • In order to start the cmd you have to click on “Run” from the start menu of the computer. Then in the text box space you have to type the word “cmd”.
  • After that in the command prompt type the command “CHKDSK [driveletter] /r”. Say for example the SD card drive is “E” in that case you have to type “CHKDSK E: /r” command on the cmd. This command “CHKDSK” would check that particular disk for structural corruption. The parameter “/r” command is used for repairing the issues it is detected.
  • Then select “Yes”. After that Chkdsk would report the entire thing what it has done after that from your my computer you check your drive.
